As the Seminole Nation Museum co-founder, Margaret Jane Norman understood the value of art and history and their influence on our culture.
Curation
As the first curator, she had a profound impact on the museum’s collection. The Margaret Jane Norman is the museum’s permanent collection, which hosts over 600 works of art. Here, you will find paintings, sketches, sculptures, and bronzes by such noted artists as Enoch Kelly Haney, Benjamin Harjo, Jr., Gary Montgomery, Willard Stone, Charles Banks Wilson, and Fred Beaver.
Additionally, the gallery hosts a number of special programs and traveling exhibits throughout the year. These events include annual exhibitions, such as the Wewoka High School Alumni Art Show, and special programming, such as 2012’s Combat Paper Project and the Smithsonian national traveling exhibit, “Key Ingredients: America by Food,” in 2011.
Community
The gallery is more than a space for art. It is a valuable space for the community. It serves as a teaching and educational venue and is also where we host cultural workshops and special story-telling events.
